In an exception to the rule, Paul Schneider’s wife Margarete, née Dieterich (1904–2002), managed to get the body of her husband murdered in Buchenwald concentration camp transported to Dickenschied and buried in the cemetery there.

The funeral ceremony was attended by many people and fellow clergy from the Confessing Church – some 200 pastors, the majority of whom were vested, were present. The funeral turned into an impressive demonstration by the Confessing Church. One Gestapo official stated that kings are buried thusly.

Soon after his death, Schneider was already recognized as a martyr by, among others, Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Lord Bishop of Chichester George Kennedy Allen Bell.
