Schröder’s work for the National Committee for Free Germany continued even after May 8, 1945. In his radio sermons and addresses, he appealed to Christians to support the inner renewal of the German nation. They should help where they could and also devote themselves to the liberated victims of the concentration camps. German guilt could also not be evaded; the perpetrators had to be condemned.

Making reference to religious life in the Soviet Union, Schröder attempted to dispel Christians in Germany’s fear of Soviet occupation. In the run-up to the reestablishment of political parties, he appealed Christians to participate in the newly emerging political life in Germany.

Schröder’s last radio sermon was broadcast on December 2, 1945.
