Stalingrad
Schröder was the chaplain of the 371th Infantry Division, which was attached to the 6th Army before Stalingrad in December 1942.
Schröder was present at the battles for Stalingrad and the encirclement of the German army. He also suffered from frostbite and malnourishment.
More than 700,000 died on both sides in the Battle of Stalingrad. One hundred thousand German soldiers were taken prisoner; Schröder was also among them.
