Marga Meusel categorically rejected Nazi racial ideology. As a social welfare worker, she witnessed the tribulations of individuals suffering from the Nazis’ repressive measures against “non-Aryans” on a daily basis. She also witnessed the impact of the “Law for the Restoration of the Professional Civil Service” of April 7, 1933 in her circle of family and friends: Her cousin’s husband, Pastor Friedrich Forell, lost his job. Alice Salomon and Hilde Lion, teachers of hers at the German Academy for Women’s Social and Educational Work, and her friend Charlotte Friedenthal likewise fell victim to the “Aryan paragraph”.
