Marga Meusel was undeterred in her efforts to aid victims of racial persecution and was even willing to bear the possible consequences. Once the deportations began in 1941, Meusel placed women, who had escaped the Gestapo’s clutches and been forced to lead illegal lives, in homes and parsonages and procured food and identity papers for them. In March of 1943, Meusel was denounced for anti-Nazi statements. Superintendent Max Diestel got the woman who had denounced her to recant.
