In a radio sermon in early February of 1945, Schröder appealed to the populace of the war zones in Silesia and Pomerania to stay. Making reference to his own situation, he attempted to dispel their fear of the Red Army. Schröder evidently knew nothing about the dreadful events during the advance of Red Army incited by Soviet hate propaganda.
