Helmuth von Moltke wrote his sons Caspar (born November 2, 1937) and Konrad (born September 23, 1941) from Tegel Prison on November 11, 1944. In his farewell letter written in the face of the impending penalty of death, Moltke explained the motives behind his resistance against Hitler to his sons. Harald Poelchau, Tegel prison chaplain and one of the Kreisau Circle’s members undiscovered by the Nazis, passed this letter along, too.
